What are they, and why do we need them?

As many great websites, research studies, and doctors have proven, CBD is a fantastic antioxidant, as are many of the vitamins and minerals we know we need to stay healthy, including vitamins C and E. We know we need these in our daily food intake. We know that these help keep us healthy and prevent a variety of diseases and disorders. But what you may be wondering is what is an antioxidant? What exactly do they do, and why do we need them? How does CBD’s antioxidant properties help prevent, treat, and alleviate symptoms of so many diseases?

But first thing’s first. What is an antioxidant? According to an article from PubMed.gov, an antioxidant is a substance that helps balance out oxygen or nitrogen-derived prooxidants. Still confused? Let’s break it down. When your body uses oxygen and nitrogen, it produces natural bi-products called free radicals. These free radicals, also known as prooxidants, are molecules that are highly reactive with other substances, and sometimes even with themselves. Because of how reactive they are, they attack other molecules including proteins, DNA, and lipids. These are all things we need for our bodies to function! We need oxygen, so free radicals are unavoidable. But we also need our DNA! The goal is to balance the two so that your body continues to function correctly.

So what does all of this have to do with antioxidants? Antioxidants can slow or prevent the damage caused by these free-radicals. They hunt out these free-radicals and stop them before they can attack the molecules your body needs to function. Along with eating foods high in specific vitamins and minerals, taking CBD regularly is a great way to ensure that you’re getting all the antioxidants you need, as well as a variety of other great benefits!

Not having enough antioxidants in your diet can cause a variety of problems including neurological diseases, diabetes, inflammatory problems, and skin diseases, all of which CBD has been scientifically proven to help treat or prevent. If you’re unsure if you’re getting enough antioxidants or are one of the millions of people that don’t like the foods that are antioxidant-rich, try getting your antioxidants from CBD, and see how much better your body feels and performs!
